When it comes time to step out and select your perfect gown, there is often one detail that gets overlooked: how your body shape wears a particular style of dress. Knowing your body shape in relation to a dress silhouette saves time, fits you better and wears more comfortably.
BODY TYPE
To determine your body type, start by measuring your bust, waist and hips to identify your unique shape using your narrowest and widest parts as a reference point. Tip: use the Bicici & Coty “How to Measure” guide as a starting point.
There are six body types that are most commonly identified described below:
Straight |
You have minimal curves with shoulders, torso and hips proportionate. |
Hourglass |
Your waistline is clearly defined. Bust and hips are close to or exactly the same size. |
Pear |
Your hips and lower body are wider than your bust and shoulders. Your waist is defined. |
Diamond |
Your waist is not defined and is wider than your bust and hips. Your shoulders are narrow with a small to medium bust. |
Inverted Triangle |
Your top is bigger than your hips. Shoulders are broad with a medium to large bust. You have smaller hips with a waistline that is not clearly defined. |
Oval / Apple |
Your hips are narrower, with a larger bust and minimal waist definition. |
When you determine your unique body type, you are one step closer to picking the perfect dress for your body.
SILHOUETTE
Although every dress has its own spirit, there are six basic cuts used to describe dress silhouettes, simply referring to the overall cut of the dress.
